The admin panel is where you can make the adjustments to your router and wireless network. You will be able to fine-tune the device's configuration or change its settings altogether. The admin panel allows you to define or change the default username and password for the router, as well.
➜ Be sure you have your router model-specific login credentials present. You can find them either on the back of the router or by searching through this website.
To access the admin panel, type 192.168.1.159 in the address bar of your web browser (Chrome, Mozilla, Edge, Safari). If you receive an error message, 192.168.1.159 might not be your router’s local IP. You can perform a factory reset of your device. There is the possibility to check the current local IP in the network settings of your computer.
After successful authentication at 192.168.1.159, you will be taken to the admin features and you can then change any of the options available, such as the Wi-Fi password, the router login credentials, name of the Wi-Fi network, the local IP addresses of the router, and the users, and more.
Keep your username and password safe, and do not share them with anyone to prevent unwanted intrusions into your home/office router.
For security reasons, it is best if you change the default username and password after your initial login. In that way, you will ensure only you have access to the admin panel of your router. Anyone else would need your authorization.
Malicious parties may easily disrupt your home or office network if they gain access to the device. For the same reason, you should password-protect the access to the network itself. In that way, you will guarantee no one hijacks your internet connection.
192.168.1.159 is a private IP address. An IP (Internet Protocol) address is a string of four numbers, each varying between 0 and 255. The IP identifies each device signed to a computer network. A private IP, or a gateway IP, is different from a public one. The public IP is your network’s identification that websites, cloud, and other internet services use to send data packages to your home and office network. The gateway IP is the address your router uses to distribute the content to the devices that request it:
192.168.1.159 is your router’s default gateway IP. The IP addresses the other devices in the network receive are related to it.
The default private IP address is not unique to every router. Manufacturers assigned the same default IP to all their routers. Gateway IP addresses aren’t even unique to the same brand. Some of the mainstream manufacturers that use the 192.168.1.159 IP address as a default gateway for their devices include:
